Now that I have had the plants for a couple of days I have noticed that I have inherited some leaf issues. I am not sure why I didn’t notice these discolorations when I purchased the clones, but it was probably because I saw so many others that day that looked much worse. Oh well, here are the problems that I have inherited.
Since I am new to growing I am having a hard time diagnosing the plants specific issues. I decided to get some help by using the forum “Rollitup”. Here is a link to my post Newbie Leaf Issues for the full discussion.
Inherited Problem 1 – Leaf front and back – Yellow spots
Inherited Problem 2 – Yellow spots and holes & Yellowing Leaf
Solutions:
- These issues are most likely due to the clone not yet being established and just working through it’s natural start-up cycle. Not really a problem.
- Dilute nutrients (add pure PH balanced water, about 3 gallons, to the reservoir to top off and take a gallon or more of the old nutrient solution out).
- Will look for new growth to improve.
Inherited Problem 3 – Dark green veins
Solutions:
- Caused by a magnesium deficiency.
- Problem is most likely due to the clone not yet being established and just working through it’s natural start-up cycle. Not really a problem.

Leaf and Hydroton white residue
Solutions:
- Caused by a salt build-up.
- Mixed opinions – some believe I should add CalMag others say it is not a problem at all or that it may even be a mold.
- I decided to dilute the nutrients (see first problem above) and I will flush the system once every two weeks right before changing the nutrients if it continues.
